Opposite aspect has xeric woodlands. Downslope quickly grades to red oak forest. On flats on top is red pine also looking like plantation, but probably at least semi-natural following fire or clearing, grazing etc…;Steep NW facing slope just below ridge crest and above a band of sandstone outcrop. Relatively deep sandy soil. Community is a nearly pure stand of red pine. Stand almost appears planted, but large trees are growing on rock that wouldn't support a planted sapling and there is abundant regeneration under canopy. Many of smallest cohort of red pine are dead or top dead, but S1 cohort is healthy and some very young ones look very healthy.

Small patch of native red pine forest. Long narrow plot to maximixe red pine cover and maintain uniform slope and aspect.
